"He who loves his life will lose it" (Jn 12:24,25)

 

2. Denial of Godís love (1 Jn 3:16,17)

 

3. Curse of people

"The people will curse him who witholds grain" (Prov 11:26)

 

4. Hell fire

"Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire... for I was hungry and you

gave Me no food" (Mt 25:41-46)

 

C. Areas of Selfishness

 

1. Material things (1 Jn 3:17)

 

2. Relationship between mature and immature believers (Ezek 34:18-22, Rom 15:1)

 

3. Shepherding the flock of God (Isa 56:11)

 

4. Manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 14:12-19)

 

5. Spiritual aspirations (Mk 10:35-37)

 

6. Religious exercises like fasting (Zech 7:4-6)

 

D. Importance of Selflessness

 

1. The Second great commandment like the First, and the summary of all Law.

"You shall love your neighbour as yourself" (Mt 22:39; Rom 13:9; Gal 5:14; Js 2:8)

 

2. The basic condition for discipleship

"...let him deny himself..." (Lk 9:23)

 

3. A must for peaceful interpersonal relationships (Gen 13:8,9)

"Look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others...
